If You Are Thinking of Going Alone Be Prepared

Joanne and Jacques Leroux are warm and welcoming Christian people, but they are also inclined to delve deeply into your personal life. Be careful not to give them authority to work with you in a way that feels unsafe. Are you ready to open yourself and your life up to scrutiny and criticism, based upon their interpretation of God's will for you, based upon very little experience of knowing you? If this is exactly what you want, then go. Now, if you already know them ahead of time and if you have learned that you can trust them, that is quite different. Going in numbers also helps to decrease your vulnerability towards overly intrusive and unwelcome counselling. Personal boundaries are a bit weak here, but the love of God is strong and they really are very nice people.
Just one other thing... if you are single you should know that they will want to talk about who you are dating and they will discourage you from dating anyone who does not pass muster according to strict Christian standards (read their article on 'Unevenly Yoked'). This Retreat Centre would do better to offer ministry to help Christian men and women meet one another, serving the faithful with less criticism and more positive encouragement. There is a huge need for more ministry to help Christian singles find a solid marriage partner. Imagine, for instance, if they were to hold one weekend a month for 15 men and 15 women to gather on their property (most staying nearby) then they could direct their talents towards teaching and coaching people towards wisely involving God in choosing and dating. In this way they would create more trust and help people in ways less controlling and more loving.
