HONORING A NEW HALLELUJAH PROJECT AND SONG



Smith Also Recognized During Telecast as New Member of Gospel Music Hall of Fame


(Nashville, Tenn.) April 24, 2009 – Industry leader Michael W. Smith, was honored last night at the 40th Annual GMA Dove Awards not only with two trophies recognizing his musical offerings, but for his overall contribution to Gospel Music as a new member of the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.

Smith was recognized in the Praise & Worship Album category, as both artist and producer, for his A New Hallelujah project. The live CD released on October 28, 2008 and is quickly approaching the 250,000 sales mark. Smith also received a trophy in the Inspirational Recorded Song category for the album’s moving title track “A New Hallelujah” which honored his roles as both artist and writer.

During the show, Smith was recognized as a recent inductee to the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. The ceremony took place earlier this year and included Dolly Parton, Dr. Bobby Jones, The Dixie Hummingbirds and Lari Goss.

Michael W. Smith heads out this weekend for the remainder of the United Tour dates with friend Steven Curtis Chapman.
